Cuban journalist José Raúl Gallego questioned actor and comedian Alejandro García Virulo for writing the song ‘You don’t mess with Cuba’, which openly criticizes Donald Trump, But also contains phrases addressed to the San Isidro Movement (MSI).
Gallego asked the singer-songwriter if the fragment of the conga that says: “those who do the errands (to Trump), to hurry because the party is over, and looking that the ‘baro’ is going to end, they have formed a titingó “, refers to the fact that they quartered in San Isidro and the hundreds of artists and intellectuals who gathered in front of the Ministry of Culture demanding freedom of expression.
“Was that what you interpreted?” Was Virulo’s response.
The young reporter replied that it would be very sad for someone so talented to believe the version of the regime, which is trying to attribute to the United States Government and its president, the responsibility for all the ills that Cubans suffer.
“It is very sad (…) that his song is used as the soundtrack for the next acts of repudiation of good people who are not messing with ‘Cuba’, Virulo, but are facing the Government of Cuba (these are two very, very different things) to demand issues that would do better for Cuba and the Cubans, “he stressed.
Virulo responded that in his opinion, Trump poses a real danger to Cuba and to the world.
“This gentleman is crazy. And I still can’t explain how so many people don’t see it. The Cuban problems will be solved by the Cubans, without anyone getting in the way. That’s what I’m asking for with my song. And I say it very clearly.” , he specified.
But Gallego returned to the charge alleging that the problem is not in the criticism of Trump, but in the verse that repeats the government speech that the people who have protested in Cuba in recent weeks are “the ones who make the sent “to Trump.
“With Cuba we have to ‘get in’ all Cubans, but this government that paid for its conga, calls us ex-Cubans, mercenaries, traitors and takes what it finds to get everyone out of the debate who disagrees. That is why we have not been able to solve the problems of Cubans for sixty years, “he said.
“And when they give the next act of repudiation to a person who is not messing with Cuba, but with the dictatorship, and the group involved is singing to him, to the sound of a horn placed in a state car ‘Do not want know, don’t get in ‘, I’ll pass the video to you and I hope you then say that your song was not for these people, but for Trump, “he said.
In the recording of the song ‘With Cuba you don’t want to know anything’ they participated, in addition to Virulo, other artists such as Mayito Rivera, Israel Rojas, director of the duo Bona Fe; Ricardo Leyva, Ricardo Amaray and Moisés Valle, among others.
The music video for the song was filmed this week on the Paseo de la Prado in Havana, and it also involved the Conga dels Clots and the Guaracheros de Regla, along with art students.
