After constant reports that the governor Wanda Vázquez Garced would nominate her husband, Judge Jorge Díaz Reverón, for promotion to the Court of Appeal, the Office of Government Ethics (OEG) concluded that although he is in his faculty as a trustee, he would be an unethical act.
In a letter to Vazquez Garced, the unit stated that even in the alternative of an interim governor making the appointment, it would be inappropriate.
“Conclusions that in effect, the Governor has the constitutional power to appoint judges to perform in the Judicial Branch”, Read the conclusion of the OEG.
“Undoubtedly, the situation of a Governor appointing his relative to a position as a Judge in the Judicial Branch or, alternatively, the Acting Governor making the said appointment, is an unethical practice as all are prohibited. for the LOOEG ”, he continues.

The document then goes on to reflect on the north of a governor, which according to the OEG, is “for example for all public servants.”
“In these times of crisis, where the government has been torn apart by constant allegations of corruption against public servants at all levels, we must be committed to restoring the people’s confidence in their government institutions,” the document concludes.
