It’s cold today, following this weekend’s storm

DETROIT – It is good that we do not have wind now because, if we did, we would have effective warnings of wind cooling.

Most of us start the day well below zero and if it’s not below zero where you are, you’re not too far from that. Temperatures at 4 a.m. included 1 degree (-17 degrees Celsius) in Detroit and Windsor, zero (-18 degrees Celsius) at Metro Airport in Romulus, -5 degrees (-21 degrees Celsius) in Waterford and Howell, and our coldest temperatures are -15 degrees (-26 degrees Celsius) in Port Huron and -18 degrees (-28 degrees Celsius) in Lapeer.

These are our coldest temperatures since late January 2019! You can imagine what those chills would be like if we had any wind!

Fortunately, we will have plenty of sun this morning before the clouds move this afternoon. That should raise temperatures in higher teens (-7 degrees Celsius) this afternoon.

The wind will remain weak and eventually blow from the west and move southeast 4 to 7 mph.

Announcements

Today’s sunrise is at 7:26 and today’s sunset at 18:09

Wednesday night cloudy, with lows in low teens (-11 degrees Celsius) … it’s a little easier to take.

The Thursday / Friday storm I’ve been writing about since last week doesn’t seem to be a problem primarily for us. We may be bordered by some light snow at night from Thursday to Thursday night; the best chance of seeing any buildup is usually south of I-94 and at our eastern end, and just look a little further.

Scattered snow showers can still cross the area on Friday, especially on the thumb.

Thursday highs in the mid-20s (-4 degrees Celsius), Thursday night lows in mid-teens (-9 degrees Celsius) and Friday highs in the mid-20s (-2 degrees Celsius).

The next storm is coming to an end over the weekend, but not before we have a wonderful winter day on Saturday because the kids (and also the adults) are out playing in the snow. Expect some sunshine, with highs in the mid-20s (-5 to -4 degrees Celsius).

Announcements

Things remain quiet Saturday night, with odds of falling back in single digits (-15 to -13 degrees Celsius).

Rising clouds on Sunday, with a chance of snow in the late afternoon. Highs close to 32 degrees (0 degrees Celsius).

The snow is rising on Sunday night and, for the first time in a long time, I can argue that we actually have the possibility of some icy or rainy rain mixing. But the areas that are left with all the snow could receive a few inches.
