“It’s time to de-escalate” with Russia

U.S. President Joe Biden told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin that “the time has come for escalation.” after Washington announced new sanctions against Moscow.

The United States announced a barrage of sanctions against Russia in retaliation for what he considers “destabilizing international actions”, Including accusations that Moscow interfered in the 2020 U.S. presidential election, as in 2016, with digital disinformation campaigns.

Biden described the measures as “a measured and proportionate response” to what he described as hostile actions by Moscow.

The American president estimate that live communication with Putin could establish a “more effective relationship” and claimed that the Russian leader agreed with this thesis.

Biden indicated that the proposed summit in Putin could take place this summer in Europe and that it would be an opportunity to “launch a strategic stability dialogue”.

Putin has not yet responded, however the president indicated that teams are discussing this possibility “right now”.
