The court also fined the presenter, Yves de Mbella, 2 million CFA francs ($ 3,619.91) and banned him from leaving Abidjan, the country’s commercial capital, for a year, a spokesman told Reuters of the Ivorian judicial system.
The man who appeared on the show was sentenced to two years in prison, the spokesman said.
De Mbella has apologized for the segment in which he asked his guest to show how he raped women, helped him adjust the female mannequin, and asked if the victims “enjoyed.”
De Mbella said on Tuesday he had tried to “raise awareness” of the segment, which aired Monday on private television channel Nouvelle Chaine Ivoirienne (NCI), but said he had “made a mistake”.
NCI also apologized and canceled the last episode of de Mbella’s show, which had been scheduled for Friday. An online petition to request the cancellation of the Mbella program has received nearly 50,000 signatures.
Côte d’Ivoire’s independent communications council on Tuesday ordered Mbella’s 30-day suspension, saying the segment had approved the rape and attacked the dignity of women.
