The Santos club is not the only Brazilian club that has been the victim of a dubious refereeing work in matches against Boca Juniors. We present other cases
Sants left La Bombonera furious over the work of Chilean referee Roberto Tobar, who ignored Izquierdoz’s criminal case against Marinho. But Sants FC are not alone in this complaint. There are at least six cases in which Brazilian clubs have complained of “theft” in duels against Boca Juniors.
Palmeiras is the one who ‘leads’ this peculiar ranking. There were two cases that upset the fans and especially the players who were in the duels for the 2000 and 2001 Libertadores.
In the first case, they lost the title before Mouth, in Morumbí, In a match in which there were two penalties for the team alviverde. In the second, a two-goal draw at La Bombonera, there was a questionable penalty in favor of the Argentines and a non-scoring penalty for the Palmeirenses.
In this long list stands out a case that happened in 2013, year in which Boca Juniors eliminated the Corinthians in the round of 16.
The arbitration of the Paraguayan Carlos Groga in Pacaembu was much questioned, With two goals from the alvinegro team annulled and two unmarked penalty kicks.
Two years after the match an audio was leaked in which Julio Grondona, Then president of the Association of Argentine Soccer, spoke of the election of judge with Abel Gnecco, representative of the AFA in the Committee of Arbitration of the CONMEBOL.
“I was talking to Alarcón and he said to me,‘ Are you looking for yellow in Argentina? ’” Gnecco says to Grondona, who replies: “Look, if you don’t know, I do. I put it on and stop bothering me. Alarcón, put Groga on and stop smoking me in the air.”
Returning to last Wednesday’s match, Sants left La Bombonera filing a formal complaint with CONMEBOL over the refereeing work of Chilean Rooberto Tobar.
Regarding the alleged foul, the former referee and commentator of Disney sports channels, Carlos Eugenio Simó, said that: “In the protocol it is determined that the referee will see the play. I am curious to hear the audio from the VAR room “.
La Conmebol released the audio on Thursday (7), in which the referees value it as a “normal match play” and say that Marinho was thrown on the grass after Izquierdoz’s contact. Thus, Sants will formalize the complaint.
