Jack Dorsey sells his first tweet as an NFT for more than $ 2.9 million

Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter and Square, on Monday sold his first tweet as an NFT, or non-expendable testimonial, for more than $ 2.9 million when he ended bidding on the “Valuables” platform, managed by Cent, a blockchain-driven social networking network. .

The tweet, which says, “You just set up my twttr,” was first published by Dorsey on March 21, 2006.

NFTs are digital resources, including jpegs and video clips, that can be bought and sold, just like physical assets. And, since they work with blockchain, a decentralized digital book can be tracked that documents the transactions, ownership, and validity of each.

While there was a bidding war over the NFT from Dorsey’s tweet between tech entrepreneur Justin Sun and Bridge Oracle CEO Sina Estavi ultimately won a bid of more than $ 2.9 million of dollars, depending on the place. Estavi also offered $ 1.1 million to own the NFT from a recent tweet from Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, which was also featured in “Valuables.”

“[B]and bidding for the first tweet in the history of Jack Dorsey and Elon Musk’s NFT, I wanted to highlight the importance of NFTs in [the] Estavi recently told CNBC Make It. In addition, “I wanted to encourage participation in charities in the cryptographic space.”

According to “Valuables,” the tweet itself “will continue to be posted on Twitter,” but the winning bidder would own the NFT, “signed and verified by the creator,” as a virtual autograph. “Valuables” also requires users to log in to the platform through their Twitter account to verify that their true creators make them post tweets for sale.

In March, Dorsey said all proceeds from her sale of NFT would be converted to bitcoin and donated to GiveDirectly, an organization that helps those living in poverty in Africa.

“Sent to the @GiveDirectly Africa Fund,” Dorsey made a tweet on Monday. “Thank you, @sinaEstavi.”

Dorsey has long been a supporter of the cryptocurrency space: in February, her financial services company Square bought bitcoin for an additional $ 170 million, and Dorsey has consistently championed bitcoin.

Today, Dorsey is worth $ 13 billion, according to Forbes.
