NEW YORK – The St. Louis Cardinals, Jack Flaherty, and Atlanta Braves pitcher Mike Soroka won their payroll arbitration cases Saturday, while Tampa Bay Rays reliever Ryan Yarbrough lost his case.
Flaherty received an increase from $ 604,500 to $ 3.9 million by referees Howard Edelman, Steven Wolf and Walt De Treux, who heard arguments on Feb. 5. The Cardinals had filed $ 3 million.
Soroka received an increase from $ 583,500 to $ 2.8 million by referees Frederic Horowitz, Margaret Brogan and Robert Herzog, who overheard the discussions on Friday. The Braves had defended $ 2.1 million.
Yarbrough received an increase from $ 578,500 to $ 2.3 million from referees Allen Ponak, Mark Burstein and Jules Bloch instead of his $ 3.1 million request.
So far, players and teams have shared six decisions, with four players: Los Angeles Dodgers receiver Austin Barnes, Chicago Cubs camper Ian Happ, San Francisco second baseman Donovan Solano, and the Atlanta short. Dansby Swanson.
This year all cases on Zoom due to the pandemic are being discussed instead of in person.
Flaherty, 25, was 4-3 with an ERA of 4.91 in nine starts during the reduced season, which eliminated 49 and walked 16 in 40 1/3 innings.
Soroka, 23, has been 0-1 with a 3.95 ERA in three outings. His year ended when he tore his right Achilles tendon while throwing against the New York Mets on August 3rd. Soroka underwent surgery four days later and hopes to be ready for Opening Day.
A 29-year-old left-hander, Yarbrough was 1-4 with an ERA of 3.56 in nine starts and two appearances in relief, scoring 44 and walking 12 in 55 innings of 2/3. It was 1-0 with an ERA of 3.68 in two postseason starts and five relief appearances, helping the Rays reach the World Series, where they lost to the Dodgers.
