According to the Prosecutor’s Office they formed a criminal organization in San Alejo called El Diable de Cordoncillo, he was allegedly one of the financiers, he had recently returned from the United States.
The candidate for mayor of the party Wins by the municipality of Yayantique, department of the Union, Franklin Gutiérrez, was sent to prison next to seven subjects more accused to integrate an extermination group known like “The Devil of Cordoncillo”, reported the Attorney General’s Office.
According to the Public Ministry, the extermination group operated in three municipalities of the Union department, and they were sent to prison while the judicial process unfolds.
Alexis Gaitán, chief prosecutor of the Union, explained that the criminal group is joined by 25 other defendants who on December 23, 2020 were also decreed formal investigation with provisional detention for three cases of homicide, 13 propositions and conspiracies in the crime of homicide, attempted aggravated homicide and terrorist organizations.
The Prosecutor’s Office noted that among the eight who were sent to prison yesterday after the hearing to impose measures in the Specialized Court of Instruction of San Miguel, is Franklin Gutierrez, who returned to the country from the US. UU., To participate in the elections of the 28 of February, since it had been postulated like candidate for mayor by the municipality of Yayantique by the party Wins.
Prosecutor Gaitán reported that Gutiérrez is accused of being part of the financial allegations and is being prosecuted for the crime of terrorist organizations and of proposing and conspiracy in the crime of homicide.
The extermination group “El Diable de Cordoncillo”, according to the chief prosecutor, received funding from abroad and had access to police information to operate clandestinely and control the municipalities in the municipalities of San Alejo, Yayantique and La Unión.
