Jake Paul goes from the idea of a rematch with Tyron Woodley because Woodley didn’t live up to a tattoo bet the couple made after the first fight, Paul told ESPN Monday.
Paul and Woodley appeared to make a gentlemanly deal in the ring after Paul beat Woodley by split decision on August 29th. Woodley said he wanted revenge, to which Paul said Woodley should get a “I love Jake Paul” tattoo somewhere on his body. Woodley agreed and the two shook hands.
“I’m done,” Paul said. “I leave Tyron in the past. He didn’t live up to the bet: he didn’t get the tattoo done. So revenge no longer makes sense.”
Paul, the award-winning YouTube polarizing star, first unveiled the tattoo bet at a July press conference in Los Angeles. Woodley seemed to agree, but later said no. Paul said that by not getting the tattoo done, Woodley gave the opportunity to another lucrative boxing match against him.
Woodley is the former UFC welterweight champion who made his professional boxing debut against Paul.
“If I got the tattoo right away, I’d get 10 million views on my Instagram video, [then] everyone would have been super exaggerated, there would have been a lot of press around them, “Paul said.” And I would have been forced to do so. Then I couldn’t really deny it, because if he’s going to be a man of his word, I have to be a man of his word. Therefore, it was found. He lost another big payday because of his ego. “
So if it’s not Woodley again, who will be next for the now Paul 4-0? There are several “options,” Paul said.
One of them is Tommy Fury, the undefeated half-brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury. Tommy Fury, a reality star in the UK, fought and won on Paul’s card against Woodley against Paul’s teammate Anthony Anthony. The idea was to put him on the menu as a possible future rival of Paul. Paul said his team is “in talks” with Fury’s about a fight.
“He’s the boxer he doesn’t quote,” Paul said. “It comes from a mythical bloodline. People keep saying, ‘Fight a real boxer, fight a real boxer.’ So this fight is definitely interesting to me. I don’t know if his name is big enough .We keep looking at the pay-per-view numbers that came in from the UK “.
Paul, 24, said he is not sure if he will fight again this year or if he will wait until early 2022. It depends on who may be the next enemy. On Saturday night, MMA legend Vitor Belfort, 44, summoned Paul after Belfort defeated legend Evander Holyfield, 58.
Triller Fight Club, promoter of Belfort and former promoter of Paul, pledged to win $ 30 million for a winning match of all.
“It could be a possibility,” Paul said. “But honestly, Triller doesn’t have that money. There’s no possible way. It’s just a smart move. In my opinion, a fight isn’t really that interesting. Vitor, again, is old and worn out. He was a big name at some point, but not for this new combat sports world. It’s a little too old. It’s not that exciting. It’s an easier fight than Tyron. So I don’t know. “
Paul said a fight against 46-year-old Anderson Silva, one of the greatest champions in UFC history, would also be something he would consider. Silva is 2-0 now as a professional boxer in 2021 with victories over his legendary MMA Tito Ortiz and former boxing world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. But Paul is concerned about the narrative that continues to fight older, older athletes.
“I’ll probably end up fighting all these guys at some point, so we’re just seeing what makes the most sense and we’re going to take it fight to fight,” Paul said.
The most interesting opponent in the lot? Jorge Masvidal, the holder of the legendary BMF title and one of the biggest stars in the UFC. Paul and Masvidal were once friendly, but things boiled down before the fight between Paul and Woodley over Masvidal’s loyalty to Woodley, a lifelong friend and first-round client.
Masvidal, however, has a UFC contract, and Paul acknowledges that it’s too long for the fight to happen as long as it is.
“If your father, [UFC president] Dana [White], leaving him out of his contract, would probably be the biggest fight of all of these that we’re talking about, “Paul said.” I wouldn’t like anything else. It’s a good test of my ability, isn’t it? He is the “Gamebred” street fighter, with his hands. I would love that, I would love this fight. “
