The Jamaican-American nurse was the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in New York.
Sandra Lindsay, a nurse at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens, received the shot this morning.
Lindsay was born and raised in Jamaica, but emigrated to the United States in 1986 to pursue her education.
His vaccine was broadcast live on the website of the New York government Andrew Cuomo.
“I feel confident today. Relaxed. I feel like healing is coming. I hope this marks the end of the most painful time in our history,” he said in an interview.
Early shipments of 170,000 doses are available in New York, and must be followed.
“This is the light at the end of the tunnel. But this is a long tunnel, ”Guomo said.
The Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last week approved the corona virus vaccine. It was developed jointly by Pfizer and Bioendech and requires two doses over several weeks.
Some countries, including Britain, which started vaccinating people last week, and Canada, which started doing so on Monday, have approved the vaccine.
