Jamal Adams fired former teammate Sam Donald on Sunday, setting a record for most excuses in a season for defense. Seahawk’s defense now stands at 8.5 per season, topping the previous eight points set by Adrian Wilson in 2005.
“I’m excited, Man, ”Adams said via sports radio KJR and PFD’s Curtis Croptree. “It didn’t really hit me. I broke it. I’m trying to distort it to be true with you, man. So this is just a start. It’s not the finish line, man. The marathon continues.”
According to Pro Football note, Adams, at 213 pounds, is the lightest player to hold eight or more sacks in a season. The previous lightest was Rod Martin, who weighed 218 pounds and had 11 sacks in 1984.
Adams had planned a Warren Saab celebration when he broke the deadlock, but Adams’ record holder was unexpected as he pushed the Donalds out of bounds for a 1-yard loss. Adams did not know it was judged to be an excuse until Pete Carroll told him.
Seahawk had two other excuses for the 40-3 win.
