A Chicago man was arrested in the deadly shooting of a beloved youth baseball coach, who died while driving with his son on a Minnesota highway, police said.
Jamal Lindsey Smith, 33, died in Illinois and was expected to be charged with second-degree murder for his involvement in the July 6 shooting of Jay Boughton, Plymouth (Minn.) Police announced Thursday .
Police plan to extradite Smith to Minnesota, according to the announcement.
The ad did not provide further details or indicate whether anyone else participated in the shooting.
Boughton and his son were returning from a team game around 10pm on Highway 169 when someone from an adjacent vehicle shot him and sent the car crashing through a link fence. chain, through trees and in parked cars, as reported by KSTP at the time.

Her teenage son reportedly performed CPR on her until an ambulance arrived. He later died at a hospital, according to police.

Police had said there had been a “traffic altercation” between the coach and another driver before the shooting.
Authorities had called for help from the public to identify the other car, sharing snapshots of a light-colored SUV. Plymouth police said Thursday they had recovered the suspicious vehicle on July 23, but did not provide details or say where it was found.
Boughton had been an assistant coach for the past three years at the Armstrong Cooper Youth Baseball Association.
“Jay was the kind of guy you wanted to be,” he said in a message on the association’s website, along with a link to a GoFundMe page for the dead coach.
“He was an active member of our baseball family and his love of the game and his passion for helping the players was not the same. Jay, you were loved by so many and he will miss you deeply ”.
