Devotees, including men, women and children, danced beside the chariot and distributed sweets among the people.
An elderly man among the devotees said it was after two years that they were allowed to make the Janmashtami procession to Srinagar.
There was no procession in 2020 due to COVID-19, while the blockade imposed following the repeal of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019 had led to the cancellation of the event.
