Japanese say “no” to Olympics | THE IMPARTIAL

Tokyo, Japan.- Less than seven months from the inaugural date and with the pandemic at its worst in the world, the Tokyo Olympics continue to falter.

According to two surveys in the Asian country, more than 80% of people believe that the sports fair should be canceled or postponed.

The polls were conducted by the Kyodo news agency and the TBS television network.

Organizers of Tokyo 2021 have remained optimistic about being able to start competition on July 23, a year after the original date in 2020, but the rise of Covid-19 cases in the Japanese capital is a major obstacle.

The TBS poll questioned 1,261 people whether the Games should be held and 81% said no against 13% who said yes. The negative response was up 18% from December.

The other poll, from Kyodo, was very similar with 80.1 of the respondents giving a “no”.
