Jared Goff underwent surgery and will not play at the end of the season

The Rams quarterback will miss the Week 17 game after being operated on for a fractured thumb

The Los Angeles Rams quarterback, Jared Goff, underwent surgery on his fractured right thumb this Monday in Los Angeles and will not play Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, Announced head coach Sean McVay.

“We feel it would be the best thing that could be done for him and our team,” McVay said, adding that some screws were inserted into Jared Goff and that he could return for the playoffs if the Rams advance.

John Wolford took his place on the field.

Jared Goff injured his thumb in the final seconds of Sunday’s third quarter of the game against the Seattle Seahawks when he completed a 9-yard pass to tight end Gerald Everett. As he made his throw, Jared Goff’s right hand hit the helmet of Seahawks defensive wing Benson Mayowa.

“I put him back in his place,” Jared Goff noted, “and I finished the game.”

During his post-match press conference, Jared Goff stressed the impact of the injury and said his thumb “didn’t feel terrible.”

He also said his thumb didn’t bother him on throws as Jared Goff completed six of the 14 passes for 74 yards after the injury.

The Rams ’20-9 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday marked the first time this season they have lost two games in a row. They can still tie a place in the playoffs with either a win over the Cardinals or a victory for the Green Bay Packers against the Chicago Bears in Week 17.
