Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is very tired of having his guns pointed at him. Me too.

The walking Dead‘s Negan he has not always made the right decisions; for example, there was the time when he ruled as a bloodthirsty, post-apocalyptic tyrant and murdered dozens of people. Since then, however, he tries to become a better person … with an emphasis on the word trying, like last night season 11 premieres he showed. Still, actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan doesn’t think you should have been surprised.

Here’s the setup: Maggie drives a group of people through DC Metro’s subway system in hopes of getting to her old, abandoned Meridian settlement and food stores. Surprisingly, she takes Negan, her husband Glenn’s hated killer, on a journey. Negan has been trying to reform himself ever since, for the most part successfully, but Maggie will never forgive or forget him. Tan tensions rise until Negan forces a confrontation, where he accuses her of taking him on a mission to die (even if he has to kill her herself), while refuting that it is she always thinking of killing Negan and is close to shooting him at any moment, but manages to stop.

Eventually, a horde of zombies chase the group over a subway car, but they catch Maggie as she tries to climb the stairs to the roof. Negan, safely at the top of the train, looks her down, then chooses to pull away instead of helping her.

It’s a cock play for a guy that the show tries to redeem for a while, and a major step back for the character. Still, Morgan doesn’t think people should be surprised that Negan refuses to help the woman who has made it so clear how much he hates her. As the actor said TV line When He asked me if this means that Negan is a villain again:

“The public will take it as it will. There are Negan fans who will understand this move and there are people who hate Negan who will see it and say, “It’s the same old man.” For me, it’s about survival. He is a person who wants to die. But he won’t go out to make a head start, because he’s also in a precarious place with the rest. Therefore, this was a kind of opportunity that arose and he made a decision.

To be fair, it is a very humane and very decision Walking Dead decision. Morgan also believes that Negan weighed the scales and made a very conscious decision: “If he gets it, he takes it; if he doesn’t, he doesn’t. She knows there will be repercussions if she gets away with it. He is ready to treat them. “

Understandable or not, it’s still a bit frustrating on a narrative level, as this would have helped reduce the characters ’long-running conflict a bit. Instead, Maggie will inevitably survive, and everyone in the group will hate and distrust Negan even more than they all still do. It’s just repetitive to watch.

Honestly, she wouldn’t go ahead with the show for Morgan to lie for the sake of the twist, and for this next episode to begin, Negan would immediately return to Maggie with something to help bring down the zombies holding her or pull her up. Again, the show does that he would lie about anything. Like Maggie, I never forgive or forget.
