
The Spanish Society of Internal Medicine (SEMI) has a new president: Jesús Díez Manglano. The allocation has been consolidated after the holding of the Ordinary General Assembly in which have renewed the positions of the SEMI Board of Directors, after the 41st National Congress of Society.
Manglano aims to promote “the active defense of the specialty of Internal Medicine and the values they symbolize“The new president has indicated. He also took the opportunity to mention the “commendable, exemplary and dedicated delivery of Spanish internists in the hospital front line since the beginning of the pandemic.”
The new manager has reviewed who they will be with main guidelines and objectives of his position, which will take place over the next two years.
In this sense, it stands out to strengthen and dynamize the training and research activity of SEMI and to encourage collaboration and strategic alliances with other institutions. Also, pretend foster links with patient platforms in favor of an Internal Medicine of “high value, for the benefit of patients and professionals”, has underlined.
Another of the pillars is the proposal for bioethics, professionalism and the contribution of internal medicine to the sustainability of the health system.
He has also insisted on the commitment to the teaching of medical students, the training of new specialists, the continuing education of their partners and the acquisition of new skills in clinical ultrasound or non-invasive mechanical ventilation.

The Board of Directors of SEMI has been modified, so that it will accompany the new president Juana Carretero Gómez, as first vice president and Montserrat Chimeno Viñas how second vice presidency.
On the other hand, Jesús Recio Iglesias will occupy the general secretary y María Dolores Martín Escalante the SEMI Treasury. In addition, Dr. Luis Manzano will form part of the Standing Committee as Advisor to the President.

Brief Biography
Born in Zaragoza (Aragon) in 1961, Díez Manglano holds a PhD in Medicine and currently works as an internist at the University of California, Los Angeles Royo Villanova Hospital of Zaragoza. He is also an associate professor at Department of Medicine of the University of Zaragoza. In previous years, Díez Manglano has been Medical Director of the Royo Villanova Hospital in Zaragoza and Head of the Pluripathological Patients Unit of the Miguel Servet Hospital.
He has been principal investigator of the Comorbidity and Pluripathology Research Group of Aragon, coordinator of the SEMI EPOC Working Group and is currently integrated into the EpiChron group of research in chronic diseases. In 2018 he organized the National Congress of Chronic Patient Care held in Zaragoza.
He has also coordinated the technical group that drafted the Process for the Care of Complex Chronic Patients in Aragon, and has collaborated with the Ministry of Health, the Junta de Andalucía and the Government of Aragon in documents on care for chronic diseases.
In addition, Díez Manglano is the author or co-author of more than 100 publications in national and international scientific journals and has given more than 50 papers at national and international conferences.
