Jill Biden, the first woman to be elected, responded Sunday night to controversy over a recent Wall Street Journal editorial, arguing that she should avoid using the title “Doctor.” Before her name.
“Together, we will create a world where the achievements of our daughters are celebrated without diminishing.” Biden wrote on Twitter.
The editorial, written by Joseph Epstein, said the title to be used by Jill Biden, who holds a doctorate in education from the University of Delaware, was “I think it’s a scam, not a touch comic.”
“A wise man once said that no one should call himself a ‘doctor’ unless he has given birth to a child,” Epstein wrote.
He also referred to the first lady in the first sentence as “Kito”.
The editorial received backlash from many, including the Biden change group, who called the area “sexual.”

“If you have any respect for women, you will remove this awful chauvinist scene from your paper and apologize to her.”
Epstein, who is listed as an “English Emeritus lecturer” by Northwestern University, distanced himself from the faculty on Sunday.
“The Northwest is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and strongly disagrees with Mr. Epstein’s misconceptions,” the university told the Daily Northwestern.
The school removed Epstein from their website.
