Oin recent years, Jordan Klepper of The Daily Show he has emerged as “the king of humiliating Trump fans,” as our own Matt Wilstein put it.
During the 2020 election, Klepper faced some religious (and unmasked) Trump loyalists at one of the former president’s many pandemic rallies; they pressured several pro-Trump insurgents just before storming the Capitol; and I got into a lively back and forth with MyPillow guy (and Big Lie-peddler) Mike Lindell.
Monday evening, The daily show issued more open images of Klepper’s eyes colliding with people divorced from reality, this time in a rally against the vaccine warrant that took place outside the residence of New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, the week past, with attendees clamoring for the mayor’s executive order that took effect in August. 17, indoor entertainment (movie theaters, museums, entertainment venues, etc.), indoor dining room and indoor gym requires a vaccination test for entry.
One of the people Klepper faced was Edwin De La Cruz, who runs four New York City councils with the Republican ticket. De La Cruz, dressed in a badly fitted suit, stated: “Science is still new. We still have question marks. We rushed science, ”which prompted Klepper to respond,“ We were moving at warp speed … so Donald Trump rushed it. ”De La Cruz did not respond and, after stumbling, replied: “What if we change places and start attacking you?”
The wildest exchange involved a woman wearing a “F * CK CANCEL CULTURE” T-shirt. Klepper approached her and asked, “Maybe you can help me: I see signs that say ‘Vaccine warrants are fascism’ and also signs that say ‘Vaccine warrants are communist.’ What is it?”
“They’re both,” she replied.
“Are they both? They are diametrically opposed ideologies, ”he countered.
“I don’t think it’s communism, I think it looks more like a dictatorship, like we live in a Nazi Germany and the only thing missing are the fields and gas,” he argued.
“Is this what is happening right now? Why can’t you go to a concert? Klepper asked.
“I can’t go to a concert … I can’t go to a gym …” he reasoned.
“Do you think that was what Nazi Germany was like? Did people make fun of not going to a gym? Klepper replied.
It was understandable that he had no words.
