WHY IS THEY CALLED THE DONKEY?
Jorge Van Rankin he explained that when he was a teenager, a classmate of his school had a driver who roared like a donkey and so much was the joke, that he got hooked on that sound.
“I had a driver called El Burro. Then this guy was roaring. People were laughing and I was shit, but I liked it, then I went everywhere doing this.”
The driver then pointed out that this nickname was given to Alfredo, a friend, in the 70s because of the frequency with which he mimicked the sound of the pet.
“I stopped doing that to him (roaring) when we went to Acapulco and a friend said ‘The donkey, the donkey’, and some gringas from ‘How?’. And he: ‘Donkey, the donkey’. And I went start like asshole (roaring) and gringas like, “Oh, that shit. I felt so shitty that in life I did it again like a donkey, but I was left with the nickname.”, Reported Van Rankin.
In the end, the driver acknowledged that currently “If they call me Jorge or flip. Magda (his wife) calls me Donkey. Everyone knows me that way.”.
