Julio Olivera denounces death threats by New Ideas activist El Salvador News

The collegiate body had already denounced, through an official statement on February 1, that several magistrates had been threatened with death

“I am being threatened with death,” Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) magistrate Julio Olivera said during a press conference yesterday.

According to the magistrate, he has already lodged the respective complaint with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and the National Civil Police (PNC), while confirming that there is already an inspector assigned to the case.

In the statements, Olivera said that the person who threatened him is a militant of the New Ideas party and also said that he has already been identified but has not yet proceeded.

Olivera requested that the PNC and the Public Prosecutor’s Office play their part and act in the case, as well as calling on the national and international community to intervene in the situation immediately.

“Let the (United Nations) realize what is happening,” the magistrate said.

On February 1, through an official statement, the TSE had already reported that several magistrates of the collegiate body had been threatened, but on this occasion it was not specified who or who were responsible for the threats.

In issue 5 of the communiqué issued by the TSE earlier this month, the institution requested that the UN, the European Union (EU) and the Organization of American States (OAS) advance their missions. electoral observation in the country in order to prevent and denounce any act of political violence that may arise.

On this occasion, the presiding magistrate of TSE, Dora Esmeralda Barahona, said she was unaware that other magistrates had been victims of threats and that she only knew the case of Magistrate Olivera.
