Selena Gomez was not at the Met Gala on Monday, but fans of the singer “Ice Cream” they were – and made their presence known by singing their name to Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin as they walked the red carpet of the party on Monday night.
Bieber, who had a repeated relationship with Gomez from his teens that ended in early 2018, and Baldwin seemed to ignore singing in a video that went viral on YouTube.
The 27-year-old singer, “Stay,” wore a black “mason Drew” dress, nodding to his streetwear brand Drew House, while his 24-year-old model wife wore a black dress with a deep Saint Laurent neckline for her first Met Gala as a married couple.
Gómez, 29, last attended the event in 2018; she also attended 2017 with her boyfriend, The Weeknd.
Fans of Bieber and Gomez’s relationship have struggled to move forward: Bieber was forced to defend Gomez and Baldwin during a live Instagram chat in December 2020 after a fan commented:[We] i need f-king to bombard this with jelena and how selena is better. Come on, please, let’s all look for her. “
He replied, “This sad excuse from a human being just encouraged people in the video to go literally after my wife tells people to say my previous relationship was better. [and] so on. It is extremely difficult to choose the high road when I see people like this trying to get together to bring people together to intimidate the person I love most in this world. It’s not good “.
For his part, Gomez joked that their relationships have been “cursed” in a June 2021 interview.
He told Vogue Australia: “I was too young to be exposed to certain things when I had relationships. I felt much less than in past relationships and I never felt the same.”
Baldwin and Bieber quietly married in a New York court in September 2018 and celebrated with an elaborate wedding reception at the Montage Palmetto Bluff in September 2019.
