Roseville, 9 Long months after the outbreak of CA-COVID-19 infection, we are encouraged by the approval of vaccines that will serve as a key tool in controlling and ultimately ending this public health crisis. We expect the first dose of vaccine to be delivered to our Kaiser Permanent Northern California Medical Centers starting Wednesday and Thursday, (which may be subject to change). We have arrangements for our leading health workers to start vaccinating as soon as they are vaccinated.
Very limited to get started
We expect initial allocations to be very limited, and we are working to ensure an equal distribution based on health workers in areas at high risk for exposure. When we receive the vaccine quota for health workers, we are ready to go as soon as possible to vaccinate the most at-risk groups, based on what is required by public health agencies and by reviewing the medical evidence of our infectious disease leaders.
The CDC and state guidelines have identified health workers who have been identified as the greatest risk, as well as those living in nursing homes and long-term care facilities, as the first immunization groups. The initial vaccine distribution, which is expected this week, will be under the authority of the district public health authorities, who will allocate doses to the Kaiser Permanent and other accredited health care providers.
When supplies are high, we will vaccinate more health workers, prioritizing their roles, patient-facing and employee-facing activities, and exposure risk.
As people in our communities begin to be vaccinated, it is imperative for everyone to continue to use masks, appropriate physical distance and frequent use of all methods to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
