Kansan protesting in Washington, DC, explains the decision to breach the U.S. Capitol

WICHITA, Canada (KWCH) – A man named Steve de Salina is among the Kansans who are in Washington, DC to meet for President Donald Trump. Steve, who did not give his last name, was part of the large group that made its way to the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday afternoon. Steve said it’s in the country’s capital because “it’s enough” and “we have to defend the Americans.”

“The goal is to show the American people that we love our country and that we will take it,” he said.

Steve said the intention was not for the protest to become violent.

“We didn’t want to cause more problems, but we wanted to be inside the capitol. It is our house and we planned to go in and talk to our representatives because they are doing things wrong, ”he said.

Steve made the trip to Washington, DC from Sunflower State with others who did not listen to law enforcement demands.

“We climbed the scaffolding in and out,” he said of going to the U.S. Capitol. “The doors opened and we entered and that’s when the inner police approached us and sprayed us with pepper and hit us with shields.”

He said bold action is what he believed would be needed to get his message across.

“I would die for our country and for freedom. I would die for your freedoms. And if that’s what it takes to do it … ”

Steve said he left the capitol before the forced curfew at 6 p.m., and did not know what might happen when night fell in Washington.
