De Kanye West Donda has debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 the biggest week for the release of an album this year (surpassing that of Olivia Rodrigo Acid), Billboard reports. The album reached the top of the charts with 309,000 equivalent album units.
With DondaKanye has once again tied Eminem on the record number 1 consecutive debut on the album chart. Eminem broke the tie in early 2020 with Music to be killed. Both artists have only lost number 1 once, with their respective debut albums.
West has become one of only seven artists in the history of the charts to release 10 top albums (along with the Beatles, JAY-Z, Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, Eminem and Elvis Presley). It was also the biggest streaming week of an album in 2021, surpassing that of J. Cole The low season. Halsey’s new album debuted at number 2.
The album arrived on the morning of Sunday, August 29 after three listening events and several delays, giving the album only five days of activity on the list during its first week. But Donda was released on Sept. 3, West said its label released the record last week without its approval, an Instagram post that has since been deleted. He released a video for the song from the album “Come to Life”, with images of the third Donda listening act at Soldier Field in Chicago. A Donda stem player was made available to listeners to develop their own remixes.
