Kate Middleton made a visit on Saturday at a memorial site for Sarah Everard, the Londoner murdered last week on her way home from a friend’s apartment.
The Duchess of Cambridge made an unexpected stop at the Clapham Common kiosk, to add a bouquet to the memorial there.
Kensington Palace said Middleton “wanted to pay his respects to the family and Sarah,” SkyNews reported. “Remember what it was like to walk around London the night before you got married.”
The murder of Everard has set in motion a new round of calculations for the British on the safety of women.
Organizers had wanted to hold a vigil for the safety of women at the monument site later Saturday, but were denied permission because of the pandemic. Instead, London residents are urged to turn on the light at their doorstep at 9.30pm
Earlier Saturday, Wayne Couzens, 48, a police officer patrolling embassies in London, made his first court appearance. He is accused of kidnapping and murdering Everard’s death.
