Kelly Dodd is no stranger to controversy, but hates being a “victim” of the so-called “cancel culture”.
“Kelly, it was very disappointing to see how you called the protesters’ looters,” he answered a question from Andy Cohen’s fans during the “Real Housewives of Orange County” meeting Wednesday night. “As a Mexican-American, don’t you think you have a responsibility to stand by your marginalized communities?”
“Listen, I have nothing to do with the protest … Peaceful protests, I’m all set,” Dodd, 45, replied. “But that was on another level that I saw in New York. There were lootings. Buildings were burned and I don’t think that’s the way to protest. “
Cohen, 52, proceeded to post Dodd’s next mistake on social media in 2020: posting a photo in his bridal shower with a hat that said “Drunk women matter”. When asked if he understood why people were upset, Dodd said the hat was two years old and it was a gift.
“There were a lot of drunk women at the party,” Elizabeth Lyn Vargas offered, with Dodd explaining that she didn’t want to make fun of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Dodd allowed him to see how the hat could have offended people after Braunwyn Windham-Burke pushed him, before going on the offensive.
“I did not feel malicious and I was attacked by this culture of cancellation which is a lot of hatred that would never have a voice and here they meet and [coming] after me, ”he said.
“But they are not just haters. They are people who have been oppressed, ”said Windham-Burke, 43.
“Four of my best friends are African Americans and they weren’t offended,” Dodd shouted, adding, “Whites have done it!”
Dodd also reaffirmed that he was black, but did not identify as a black person.
Earlier in the episode, Dodd’s 28-person wedding to Fox News reporter Rick Leventhal became a similar point of contention as he told Cohen he had a wedding because of the pandemic.
“I’m happy to do it because no one got sick and it was beautiful,” he said.
Cohen then read a fan question he asked women if they believed Dodd’s wedding was irresponsible.
“It wasn’t necessarily irresponsible if everyone put themselves to the test,” Vargas replied.
“But is it okay to protest?” Dodd intercepted. “Can everyone protest and be among a billion people? But can’t I have a celebratory wedding? ”
It’s unclear if the Windham-Burke and Dodd drama will be presented in the upcoming “RHOC” season, as Dodd stated he would leave the show if the former makes him come back.
