Five-time All-Star pivot Kevin Love has no interest in negotiating a two-year termination and the remaining $ 60 million in his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, his agent Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports told ESPN on Saturday .
“There have been no talks with Cleveland about a buyout, nor is there any interest from Kevin in making a buyout,” Schwartz told ESPN.
The Cavaliers have regularly explored a change in Love, a scenario he supports, but have been unable to find an agreement they are willing to execute, sources said.
The arrival of three significantly younger front-line players over the past year, including center Jarrett Allen, No. 1 overall pick. 3 Evan Mobley and Bulls winger Lauri Markkanen could affect Love’s minutes with the Cavaliers.
Injuries have continued to affect Love’s productivity in recent seasons. Struggling with a calf injury a year ago, Love, 32, averaged 12.2 points and 7.4 rebounds in 24.9 minutes, the lowest of his career.
A buyout of the contract would allow the Cavaliers to save some money on Love’s contract balance, and would give him the freedom to sign elsewhere as a free agent.
