Kid Cudi nodded to Kurt Cobain (and made a big splash on social media) with bold and emotional closet options on this week’s “Saturday Night Live”.
The 37-year-old rapper shook off a full-length floral dress, with spaghetti, and a curly green cardigan in another, while performing songs from his latest album on the NBC sketch series.
Each was a clear tribute to the late leader of Nirvana, who committed suicide at the age of 27 on April 5, 1994.
“Kid Cudi pulled off Kurt Cobain’s highest tribute to #SNL the week of his death. @KidCudi all about prevention and awareness of love and suicide !!!” a fan tweeted.
The grunge legend famously wore a floral dress on the cover of the now defunct British magazine The Face, a year before his death.
Cobain also memorably wore a burnt green string of cigarettes during Nirvana’s 1993 MTV Unplugged concert.
The sweater was sold at auction for a staggering $ 334,000 in 2019.
Cudi wore the tribute sweater for his first performance of the night, combining it with a t-shirt honoring former SNL cast member Chris Farley, who died in 1997 of a drug overdose at 33 years.
“Kid Cudi has made a good entry into our subconscious tonight, making a green mohair cardigan like Kurt. The Farley shooting t-shirt was also a nice touch. #SNL “, a spectator wrote on Twitter.
