Kids are upset that the game is being suspended amid new Pennsylvania restrictions

SPRINGFIELD, Pennsylvania (WPVI) – Children across Pennsylvania are being sidelined until Jan. 4, with new statewide regulations requiring all sports to be suspended at every age level.

Governor Tom Wolf’s order states that all players are affected, from the public to private schools, entertainment, clubs and travel sports.

Terence Johnson, 15, of West Philadelphia, said: “I was injured because I was not training anymore.

State officials said they are taking steps to ensure that asymptomatic players do not spread COVID-19 into practices, locker rooms and games. They said cases were on the rise among school-age children.

The 12-year-old brand Rose spent a lot of time playing basketball before the corona virus. He says he sells basketball bracelets and diverts extra time to grow his business.

“I think play is very important because it helps kids understand what not to do,” Rose said.

Anti-violence advocates warn that not all children use their extra time productively. Ricky Duncan, managing director of the New Options, High Opportunities (Nomo) organization, said the game serves as a healthy store, and they are essential to reducing crime.

“Idle time is the devil’s toy, and if you take everything from them, it will give you nothing but the streets,” Duncan said.

In the suburbs, the Springfield Athletic Association has canceled wrestling for this year, but the jury is not yet in basketball season.

Vice President and Member Director Michael Smith says they will re-evaluate in January.

“It stinks of kids, and I’m not really going to lie,” Smith said. “They like to go there. They like to play.

Smith says he sees why parents are upset, but he also understands why state officials enforce restrictions.

He says he hopes they can start the game again in the spring.

“When it comes to outdoor sports, I believe outdoor sports are the safest because you can easily reach social distances,” Smith said. “You can easily put it away from everyone. You ‘re in the fresh air.”
