North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has threatened to expand his nuclear arsenal by revealing a list of high-tech weapons systems under development, pointing out that the future of the country’s relationship with the states United depends on whether Washington abandons its hostile policy, state media reported Saturday.
Kim’s statements, made during a key ruling party congress this week, are believed to seek to increase pressure on the government of President-elect Joe Biden, who said Kim is a “braggart” and criticized his summits with President Donald Trump.
The “key to establishing new relations (…) with the United States is if the United States withdraws its hostile policy,” Kim was quoted as saying by the Korea Central News Agency.
The leader has pointed out that he will not use his nuclear weapons unless they threaten him. In addition, he was open to dialogue if Washington is willing as well, but stressed that North Korea must continue to strengthen its army and nuclear capabilities to face growing American hostility.
And he again referred to the United States as the “main enemy” of the hermetic nation.

Biden, who will take over the presidency on Jan. 20, is unlikely to hold direct meetings with Kim unless the North Korean leader takes significant steps toward denuclearization.
