the German Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp has been unable to attend his mother’s funeral due to restrictions in Germany that do not allow flights from the UK.
Elisabeth has died at the age of 81 and the last time Klopp was able to visit her was for the celebration of her 81st birthday.
“It meant everything to me. She was a great mother in the best sense of the word. As a devout Christian, I know you are in a better place, “Klopp said, paying tribute to his mother.
Flights from the UK to Germany are suspended until at least 17 February to prevent transmission of the new strains of covid.
“When the situation allows, we will honor his life,” Klopp said.
“It meant everything to me, she was the best mom. I’m sure she’s in a better place now.”
