KU and Les Miles agree in part: Kansas Jayhawks

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas and Les Miles have agreed to separate effectively immediately. The terms of the agreement will be announced in the coming days. While the national search for a new coach begins immediately, Mike DeBord will continue to serve as acting coach until an interim coach is determined.

Statement by Athletics Director Jeff Long:

“I am very disappointed with our university, the fans and everyone who participates in our football program. There are many young talents on this football team and I have no doubt that we will identify the right individual to lead this program. We will begin the search for a new immediate coach with an outside company to assist you in this process. We have to win football matches, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do. “

Statement by former football coach Les Miles:

“This is definitely a difficult day for me and my family. I love this college and the young men in our football program. I really enjoyed being the head coach of KU and I know he is in a better place now than when I arrived. To our student-athletes, I want you to remember that you came to play at KU and got a degree here. So I beg you to stay and take advantage of what we started and do all the things we talked about doing together. There is a bright future for all of you and for KU Football. “
