Kurt Vile has signed with the legendary jazz label Verve Records, Billboard reports. Next year he will release his first LP for the label. To date, Vile has released his music through independent record labels, including Mexican Summer and Matador, which released in 2018. Wrap it up and 2020 Speed, sound, solo KV (ep).
In a statement, Vile said, “Since my teens I’ve admired the Verve logo on the back (and front) of many Velvet Underground albums.” He added: “I think my previous record Wrap it up it’s my deepest record and I’m still very proud of it. I’m excited to post your follow up on Verve. It’s been crazy shit all year and I have hundreds of songs and ideas in the can, on paper and on recorders, scattered around the “kv zone” … nuggets recorded before and after the pandemic times … in studios and from home … past, present music and, yes, we are still filming. It will be heavy, it will be beautiful … and it will be out there. “
Jamie Krents, the executive vice president of Verve and Impulse! Memories, he added: “I’ve been a big fan of Kurt for years and I feel beyond luck to get him on the Verve list. In short, he is one of my favorite artists and composers of any era and makes timeless records. “
As Vile noted in his statement, Verve has been home to rock acts like the Velvet Underground. Currently, Vile will be a record label partner with active artists such as Jon Batiste and Betty LaVette, as well as late legendary acts such as Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie.
