LA vaccine sites will administer 88,000 shots this week – NBC Los Angeles

Mayor Eric Garcetti announced Sunday that the city’s vaccination sites will increase first-dose consultations this week, managing a total of 88,000 shots at seven permanent sites and eight mobile clinics.

“Vaccines are our ticket to ending the pandemic, saving lives, rebuilding our communities, and offering hope for a healthier future,” Garcetti said. “We still have a long way to go to vaccinate safely and quickly as many angels as possible, and a larger and steady supply of doses this week means we can help more seniors, front-line and essential workers and anyone eligible to receive a vaccine in our city “.

The vaccination effort is led by the billionaire owner of the LA Times. Mekhalo Medina reported on NBC4 News on Sunday, March 7, 2021.

Last week, Garcetti said Los Angeles exceeded half a million doses administered at city-managed sites and that this week’s expected supply will allow those sites to offer about 68,000 first-dose consultations, along with 20,000 consultations. of second dose.

Shipments include 54,000 doses of the Modern vaccine and 25,000 of Johnson & Johnson, distributed across locations in San Fernando Park, Hansen Dam, Crenshaw Christian Center, Lincoln Park, Pierce College, USC University Park and Dodger Stadium.

Johnson & Johnson’s delivery this week is exceptional, as officials don’t expect to receive more than a single dose of vaccine for a few weeks. In addition, the city expects supply of all vaccines to be lower in the coming weeks, at least until April.

Another 7,000-dose delivery from Pfizer will be administered through the city’s Mobile Outreach for Vaccine Equity program. This week, officials will add an additional mobile unit to the rotation for a total of eight teams, which will serve vulnerable communities in Los Angeles, including South LA, East LA and the San Fernando Valley, in neighborhoods such as Boyle Heights, Green Meadows, Sylmar, Arleta and Glassell Park.

Officials said the MOVE program has administered more than 16,000 doses since its launch, and that more than 90% of those vaccinated are people of color.

The city’s latest vaccination center will also open this week on the USC University campus. City venues will remain open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the exception of Dodger Stadium, which will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. the rest of the week.

City venues will offer second-dose appointments this week for Angelenos who have received their first dose at a city location between Feb. 8 and Feb. 15. a city place.
