The Secretary of the Department of Labor and Human Resources (DTRH), Carlos J. Rivera Santiago, has reported the elimination by schedule of several controversial points caused mostly by errors in completing the request by the claimants.
According to the official, this will benefit 13,447 claimants who maintained the security alert in their claim.
“Given the complexity of the technological system that uses unemployment insurance, the contractor in charge of the platform informed us that after several weeks it could be eliminated by programming the controversial points of students, advanced payment orders, incomplete payment orders, and late payment orders, “Rivera Santiago explained.
At the same time, the Agency Holder detailed that the removal of these controversial points represented the disbursement of $ 3,104,367.00. “These controversial points removed did not pose major safety issues, which is why they authorize their removal, however, others cannot be removed because they require additional information or technical assistance by federal regulation,” he said.

On the other hand, the Secretary of Labor detailed that the highest volume of controversial points is as a result of voluntary abandonment (7,680), dismissals (8,971), misconduct for disciplinary measures (4,431) and the payment of vacation or settlements (9,775). “These controversial points specifically require an interview by agency staff, both with the employer and with the complainant, once this procedure is given, the case is adjudicated,” he detailed.
“As a general rule, controversial points of waiver and dismissal for disciplinary action do not qualify to receive unemployment insurance compensation, so it requires greater scrutiny,” he pointed out.
Controversial points are security alerts that arise when the claim completed by the claimant contains inaccurate information, until it is validated, the system stops paying the compensation and is not a creditor of the same.
