Lance Bass says Colton Underwood faces the reaction of the gay community to “monetize the experience” of going out.
Colton, 29, went public on Good Morning America on Wednesday and is reportedly filming a Netflix reality show about his life as a gay man.
Lance, who came out gay as in 2006, talked about the star of The Bachelor in the latest episode of The Ben & Ashley I. Almost Famous Podcast this week.

Why do you think Colton has so much online reaction after leaving, the the NSYNC singer explained: “This gay community is very diverse, but we can also be very fickle.
“You’ll definitely get a lot of reaction from the community at first. It’s not the majority, but there’s a small percentage of the community who won’t like anything that has come out that way, that is monetizing the experience.”
He continued: “They don’t think they deserve this attention and one of those reasons is, and that’s what I experienced when I went out … when you first go out, most people have no idea what the community LGBT.

“They don’t know what the problems are because they’ve been so separated from it on purpose. So when someone comes out as a public figure, so many people immediately say, ‘It’s too late.’ They don’t like to support it, because they still don’t feel like you know what you’re talking about.
“But I don’t think Colton is trying to lead this position by trying to be the spokesperson for the LGBTQ community.” Lance, 41, added.
The singer said I could relate to Colton because 90% of my fans were women and everyone thought he was straight. I made my money with women and singing about the love and use of this market. So I went out, I was scared … because now everyone will see me as a liar …
Meanwhile, Colton has no immediate plans so far after dating gay.

A source told TMZ: “Colton is no longer dating anyone and was not dating anyone before he made his big announcement this week at GMA.”
They added that Colton is busy with his Netflix show and also wants to spend quality time with his family in Denver instead of focusing on a relationship right now.
Meanwhile, Colton’s ex, 25-year-old Cassie Randolph, whom she met during her season at The Bachelor and later went out, has broken her silence after her revelation about her sexuality.
Cassie, who recently traveled to the island of Cozumel in Mexico for a getaway, wrote on Instagram, “Thank you all for the kind comments and messages.”
He also revealed that it takes a free week to post on his YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, Colton’s ex, 25-year-old Cassie Randolph, whom she met during her season at The Bachelor and went out afterwards, has broken her silence after her revelation about her sexuality. She accused him of harassing her and filed a restraining order against him after their separation last year.
After their separation, Cassie filed court documents accusing Colton of harassing her, harassing her, and planting a location device in her car.
Cassie subsequently withdrew the restraining order and Colton did not directly address the controversy in his interview with GMA, but admitted he had made mistakes.
He said, “I’d just say I feel it from the bottom of my heart.” I’m sorry for the pain and emotional stress I’ve caused. I wish it hadn’t happened the same way. I wish I had been brave enough to fix myself before breaking anyone else.
