Ángel Rondón’s lawyer, José Miguel Minier, said that the testimony of Maurici Dantas Bezerra, Odebrecht’s legal director in the country, does not prove that Rondón had bribed members of the state.
“Dantas has said absolutely nothing that Rondón has bribed any official or congressman,” Minier said outside the courtroom where the trial of those involved in the Odebrecht case continues.
The lawyer also said that the representative of the Brazilian company has not added new elements during his presentation.
“Dantas has said that Rondón has received transfers, this is what Rondón said in 2017, he has not said anything new; the question that needs to be asked of the Public Ministry is to say of these 92 million how much Víctor Díaz Rúa, Tommy Galán, Andrés Bautista and Roberto Rodríguez have received. He has not said any of this here, absolutely nothing, everything is speculative, “Minier told reporters.
In addition, the lawyer assured that if it is true that the testimony of Dantas Bezerra evidences the accusation against Rondón, another interrogation would be realized to confirm if the referred defendant received bribes.
In his testimony on Friday, Dantas Bezerras expressed to which companies money was transferred, among them Conansa, a company owned by Rondón that rented equipment and did work. On it, Minier assures that he will present as evidence the receipts of tax payments.
“There can be no affidavit by this Conansa company before the General Directorate of Internal Revenue and that they are bribes,” the lawyer added.
Last Friday, Maurici Dantas Bezerra began his appearance in the Odebrecht case, in which six other defendants face charges of receiving bribes for US $ 92 million from the Brazilian company to be awarded works contracts by the Dominican state.
The hearing is conducted by Judges Jissel Taronger, Tania Iunis and Gisselle Méndez.
