Elected Governor Pedro Pierluisi spoke today, Thursday, five appointments, three of them related to the Department of Public Safety (DSP), which will be headed by Alexis Torres, who was deputy director of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in Puerto Rico .

Pierluisi also appointed the attorney general and left María Conte as director of the Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Alexis Torres, Secretary of the Department of Public Safety

He is currently Regional Operations Director for a domestic and international security company in Florida. Previously, since 1996 he worked in the Office of Internal Security Investigations of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE-HSI) as a Customs Inspector, Special Agent and Supervisor. He has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Ana G. Méndez University. He is also a graduate of the US School of Covert Operations.

Manuel González Azcuy, 9-1-1 Emergency System Business Commissioner

He held that position under the administration of Luis Fortuño and currently directs the general scrutiny work. He began the State Election Commission (EEC) as director of the Office of Education and Training, which deals with guidance on approved manuals to officials, parties, voters, students and university students who would later be enrolled, a area that for years electoral entity has abandoned. Later it happened to be assistant administrator of the EEC and later he was special assistant of the expression of the EEC, Juan Ernesto Davila Creek. He remained in this position when President Francisco Rosado Colomer arrived at the EEC. He worked with Vilma Rosado, director of the Administrative Board of Absentee Voting and Early Voting, handling the applications and then counting them until she was relieved of her duties due to lack of controls. Javish Collazo Fernández, commissioner of the Fire Department

He has a baccalaureate in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources from the Central University of Bayamón and a master’s degree from the Metropolitan University. He is a firefighter officer accredited by the National Fire Academy. He has been a member of the Fire Department since 1998, holding various positions, including sergeant in charge of the Metro Fire Station, Chief of the Cataño Station and Lieutenant of the San Juan District. At the moment one evolves like the director of the Department of Public Security in the Municipality of Cataño.

María Conte, director of the Institute of Forensic Sciences

She is the current director of the Institute. She is a pathologist with long experience in her field. She is a graduate of the Medical School of Madre y Maestra Catholic University. He did his residency in the Department of Pathology at the University of Puerto Rico and obtained his Juris Doctor Cum Laude from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico. He did postgraduate studies at the University of Miami, at the prestigious MD Anderson Medical Center in Texas and put countless certifications and great expertise in the area of ​​pathology. She is the author of multiple publications. He belongs to the College of American Pathologists, the National Association of Forensic Physicians, and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. She has been a professor at the University of Puerto Rico, other universities and pathology schools on the Island.

Fernando Figueroa Santiago, Attorney General

He has undergraduate degrees from New York State University and the University of Puerto Rico, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He also holds a Juris Doctor from the School of Law at the University of Puerto Rico. He was a legal officer in today’s private practice Judge of the Court of Appeals, Gerardo Flores García, legal officer of the Central Investigation Panel of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, and litigation lawyer in a law firm in San Juan. From 2013 to 2016, he served as the Chief Legal Officer of the Associate Judge of the Supreme Court, Edgardo Rivera García. Since January 2017, he has been a legal advisor to the Governor’s Office.
