Lego’s new Super Mario game is full of Nintendo 64 levels

After releasing one questionable teaser on Twitter yesterday morning, today Lego has revealed the latest fruits of its collaboration with Nintendo with a giant yellow question block that it opens and folds to reveal micro-scale recreations of four levels of the classic N64 and the first exit in 3D of Mario, Sup Mario 64.

The new 2,064-piece set (a good job hitting the ’64’ exactly) measures just over seven inches on each side when fully assembled and closed, but showing it open—with the four small-scale dioramas of Peach’s Castle, Bob-omb Battlefield, Cool, Cool Mountain and Lethal Lava Trouble were deployed—it will swallow a little more space on the shelf. In addition to the four levels recreated from Super Mario 64, the Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block game also includes 10 Lego microfigures, including Mario, Yoshi, Princess Peach, Chain Chomp, Lakitu, King Bob-omb and several other villains.

Many had assumed that the mocking question block would end up being one more addition to the interactive Lego Super Mario game sets, but while not necessarily part of this collection, Lego has still included some interactivity between the blog and the updated figures of Mario and Luigi. As with the classic NES console Last year’s Lego set, Mario and Luigi figures will play unique music and sound effects when paired with the question block (presumably from the N64 game), but the new set also features ten powerful stars hidden in the length of construction that will trigger never before -View reactions and animations to any of the interactive figures.

The Super Mario 64 question mark block set is currently appears on the Lego website but unfortunately, you will need to set a calendar reminder if you want to get a copy when it is officially available on October 1 for $ 170, as the site currently does not take pre-orders. Oh my God!
