Not only did they win the Super Bowl, but Donald Trump’s dismissal defense team seems to feel that way after getting the former president a second dismissal acquittal.
“Let’s go to Disney World,” Trump lawyer Michael van der Veen joked to reporters, repeating a line uttered by a Super Bowl MVP litany since Giants quarterback Phil Simms first said it. after the Big Blue victory in 1987.
Van der Veen uttered the phrase as he left the Capitol after the Senate voted between 57 and 43 against condemning the former commander on no Saturday.
Van der Veen shook hands with a colleague as they continued walking.
Before leaving, the group of lawyers looked cheerful as they celebrated their victory. He was seen all posing to take pictures and joke among themselves.
Earlier in the day, Van der Veen maintained in his final arguments that accusing Trump of a heated pre-riot speech would violate his First Amendment rights and called the procedure unconstitutional.
Two-thirds of the Senate, or 67 votes, were needed for the conviction. Only seven Republicans joined Democrats in voting to condemn, leaving them ten short.
A single article of denunciation was filed against the former president while he was still in office, just a week after the January 6 Capitol uprising, accused of “inciting insurrection.”
The House voted 232-197 to oust Trump a week after the siege, in which five people died.
