No labor means no labor.
According to reports, Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville, New York, will temporarily stop giving birth to babies after leaving maternity staff instead of being forced to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
Six employees of the unit have resigned from the vaccine mandate, and another seven are undecided about getting the shot, County Health System CEO Gerald Cayer said Friday, according to WWNY.
“If we can pause the service and now focus on recruiting vaccinated nurses, we will be able to deliver babies here in Lewis County again,” he said, according to the station.
Cayer said 27 percent of hospital workers (165 employees) have not received the shot.
The state has ordered all New York health workers to receive the first shot before Sept. 27 or have their work completed. Following the August announcement by former Governor Andrew Cuomo, 30 hospital workers resigned, Cayer said.
