Lil ‘Nas X faced the reaction last week after a video of his mother asking for money with a poster in Atlanta, Georgia, appeared. After his father defended himself, rapper “Montero” talked about the situation with his mother in a now deleted tweet.
“I hate talking about my personal life, but you don’t know how many nights I cried to sleep feeling guilty because nothing I tried would help my mother,” she wrote. “Paint me as bad as you want, but after all you don’t know me outside of this internet ***.
His father, Robert Stafford, spoke before the “Old Town Road” rapper did so and said his mother’s battle with addiction made it difficult for him to accept help.
“Despite what people say, @lilnasx is the oldest child with whom a father can be BLESSED. Even though her mother is in a fight with an addiction, she is still queen and he does a lot to make sure we are caring, “Stafford wrote on Instagram. In 2020, Lil ‘Nas X revealed that his mother had a drug addiction during an interview with Variety.
“I never really talk about my mom,” she said. “She is addicted, so we don’t have the closest relationship. Even trying to improve it, things didn’t quite work out. But there is still love. The biggest surprise of being world famous? On the outside, everyone loves you, but on the inside, everything [feels] the same.”
