Lin-Manuel Miranda confirmed to be part of Biden’s inauguration ceremony

Actor and screenwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda and singers Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen are among the celebrities featured in the virtual celebration that will air Wednesday night after Joe Biden was sworn in as President 46 of the United States.

The Biden investiture commission announced Sunday’s participants in “Celebrating America,” a multi-station broadcast, which the commission presents as a combination of stars and ordinary citizens.

Miranda, who wrote and starred in Broadway’s “Hamilton,” will do a classic recitation. Musicians John Legend, Demi Lovato and Justin Timberlake, among others, will join Springsteen and Bon Jovi. Actresses Kerry Washington and Eva Longoria will be the hosts, along with NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, also scheduled to perform.

The segments will include tributes to a UPS driver, kindergarten teacher Sandra Lindsey, and the first American to receive the COVID-19 vaccine outside of a clinical trial.

The transmission is instead of the traditional opening dances. Biden still plans to be sworn in on the Capitol balcony, but with a ceremony reduced in size due to the coronavirus and intense security following the January 6 enclosure assault on the compound.
