The mayor of Morovis, Carmen Maldonado González, current second vice president of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), reacted to the return of Carlos ‘Charlie’ Delgado Altieri to the first vice presidency of the party and its recommendation for her to assume the presidency of the institution, which in 2021 turns 83 years old.
“I thank our president for his generosity and dedication during all these years, both to the mayor of Isabela, and to the presidency of the party and now to the first vice-presidency. Particularly his words of confidence towards me. they inspire me to accept the challenge of presiding over our institution, to reorganize in its entirety and to remain a political instrument of all Puerto Ricans. “
Maldonado González noted that the PPD “is the second largest political party in Puerto Rico in terms of full votes, as we saw in the last election, we have a majority in the House of Representatives, as in the Senate of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and in the mayors of the country. We must be the institution that makes proposals, that generates solutions, that does not make excuses, that is an example. That is the mission “.
The mayoress added that “as soon as the Governing Board meets and makes its decisions, we will start working on the reorganization of the PPD: with open arms, generosity and honor. We will honor our past, becoming the choice of the future, with the strength of youth and the solidity of experience. We have, and will be the best choice. Our flag will be inclusion, honesty, social justice and rejection of corruption “.
Knowing the importance of the issue of status, Maldonado said that “we will give the front, we will go to the Constitutional Assembly of Status and let the people decide. But let no one be deceived: the options must be “Clearly by the United States. It’s okay with fraud-based referendums. We don’t want this strategy here, nor do they want it there.”
Maldonado will be the third woman to chair the PPD, after Victoria Muñoz Mendoza and Sila María Calderón Serra, and the first incumbent mayor to take over the reins of the party founded by Don Luis Muñoz Marín. In fact, Maldonado González made history in the 2016 election by being the first woman to be elected mayor of Morovis since its founding in 1818. In the last election she revalidated with more than 66% of the vote. As a public servant, she has worked in the Electricity Authority (AEE), in the ELA Retirement System and in La Fortalesa. Even his opponents recognize him for his intelligence, ability to work and gift of people.
