The deputies approved this Thursday the binding dismissal of the director of the Police, Mauricio Arriaza Chicas, for “human rights violations”, before, during and after February 9 in his participation in the military capture of the Assembly.
According to the final report approved with 58 votes in plenary session, it is established that Arriaza Chicas violated the right to vote by providing the conditions to pressure and intimidate deputies to vote for an action in which they did not agree , feeling the legislators represent the citizenry for having been elected by popular vote.
Since the resolution approved by the deputies is of a binding nature, Arriaza Chicas has already been dismissed as director of the Police. However, according to the ephemelenist Cristina Cornejo, if President Nayib Bukele does not abide, then he will commit the crime of disobedience.
The report states that “as of the night of February 7, 2020, the security agents assigned to deputies were separated from their ordinary work, the Protection Agents for Important Personalities (PPI agents) were summoned to the former headquarters of the political reaction group, remaining there until 11 am on February 8.
