Los Angeles activists call for arrest of woman who wrongly accused black teenager of stealing a phone at Arlo Hotel in Soho, New York

SOHO, Manhattan (WABC) – They are called back to arrest the woman seen in the video mistakenly accusing a 14-year-old black teenager of stealing her phone.

Miya Ponsetto is the woman seen in the Dec. 26 video, police sources told ABC News. She has not yet been charged with the incident.

Los Angeles activists say this is where Ponsetto lives and want the California police to take her into custody.

Civil rights activists gathered Saturday at the LAPD’s North Hollywood police station to demand his arrest.

The encounter with 14-year-old Keyon Harrold Jr. and her father at the Arlo Hotel in SoHo went viral. It turns out Ponsetto had left the phone to an Uber.

He also chased both the teenager and his father, Grammy-winning musician Keyon Harrold, who was recording the incident.

The video shows Ponsetto falsely accusing the teenager of stealing his phone and then throwing himself at him and his father as he tried to grab him. Keyon Harrold, Sr., says he scratched him while trying to protect his son.

“This could have gone really wrong if I had gone down after my son,” he said. “The idea of ​​trauma outweighs any charges we may have … I take my son to places where he shouldn’t face injustices and shouldn’t be outlined.”

The NYPD says it is studying the charges against Ponsetto, ranging from assault to attempted robbery.
