Los Angeles Rams source Michael Brockers was traded to the Detroit Lions

THOUSAND OAKS, California. The Los Angeles Rams are ending a deal to send veteran defenseman Michael Brockers to the Detroit Lions, a confirmed source on ESPN.

NFL Network first reported the move.

This is the second trade the Rams and Lions have participated in this offseason after the Lions hired former school Rams principal Brad Holmes as general manager in January.

Shortly after Holmes ’contract in Detroit, the Rams sent quarterback Jared Goff, along with a third-round pick from 2021 and the first round of 2022 and 2023, to the Lions in exchange for quarterback Matthew Stafford.

These trades will become official on Wednesday at the start of the new league year.

A first-round pick in 2012, Brockers has spent the entire nine years of his NFL career with the Rams. He signed a three-year, $ 24 million contract with the Rams last season, after a free agent deal with the Baltimore Ravens was finalized.

Brockers could fall victim to the salary cap with the Rams, who had about $ 33 million above the limit, according to overthecap.com, after the $ 202.5 million salary cap was set in 2021.

The move will cost Rams $ 3.67 million in dead money charges, but will also save $ 6.17 million, according to overthecap.com.

Brockers ’$ 6.5 million base salary is fully guaranteed on the fifth day of the league.

Brockers is expected to provide immediate relief inside the defensive line for the Lions, who already re-signed runner Romeo Okwara on Monday and have Trey Flowers hired.

But half the line is missing. The Lions set aside last year’s first attack, Danny Shelton, on Tuesday and have Nick Williams, Da’Shawn Hand, John Penisini and Kevin Strong hired on defensive attack.

By negotiating with Brockers, the Lions could see him as a short-term piece to help rebuild the team’s defensive because he’s hired until 2022. His quick-win percentage (6.5 percent) and percentage of stoppage wins (27 percent) would make it a good addition to a Detroit defense that fought in both areas under Matt Patricia.

Brockers, who played alongside three-time NFL defensive player of the year Aaron Donald for seven seasons, has 28 career sacks.
