Lower House approves new political trial on Trump after assault on Capitol

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday approved the opening of a new political trial against outgoing President Donald Trump on this occasion on charges of “incitement to insurrection,” for last week’s assault in the Chapters.

Trump thus becomes the only president in U.S. history to be politically prosecuted twice.

This Wednesday’s vote ended with 232 votes in favor and 197 against, with ten Republican lawmakers joining the entire Democratic bench.

“We know that the President of the United States incited this insurrection, this armed rebellion against our common country. It must go. It is a clear and present danger to the nation we all love,” said Nancy Pelosi. the Speaker of the lower house, in the debate prior to the vote.

The United States is experiencing unprecedented political tension recently after last week’s violent assault on the Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters, which left five dead.

The outgoing president criticized the new political trial against it as something “absolutely ridiculous” and “a continuation of the biggest witch hunt in the history of politics.”

All this less than a week before the formal transfer of power ceremony, scheduled for January 20, in which Democrat Joe Biden will take over the presidency.
